History

The First Christian Church of Junction City, Kansas was founded in 1860 by G.W. Hutchinson and F.M. Brannick with 13 members who eventually passed on by 1894. In 1905 the church was reorganized with 26 members meeting in a hall downtown. They purchased a small church building on the corner of Fifth and Adams streets in 1906, which they moved to the corner of Eighth and Madison in 1907.

In 1922 the church building was torn down and a new sanctuary was built to accommodate the growing membership. By 1952 the church had grown to 360 members and two worship services were needed. By 1959 the church had added a three story educational wing and redecorated the sanctuary.

In 1968 the church purchased 5 acres of land in the southwest part of Junction City. In 1976 Dr. Maurice Graham joined First Christian Church as the Senior Minister. On April 23, 1978, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the beginning of building. The church was built primarily by the hands of the church members.

Upon Dr. Graham’s retirement in 1986 Darel Boston came to First Christian Church. During his ministry the church saw growth in numbers and the need to furnish the basement and purchase a bus. In 2003, upon the retirement of Pastor Boston, Ronnie Roberts, then the Youth and Family Minister, became the Senior Minister.

Who we ARe

First Christian Church is a body of believers that exists to bring glory to God by making disciples, meeting needs and unifying believers. We are a church that highly values scripture, believes in the power of Christ-centered community and seeks to engage the world around us with the truth of the Gospel.

SUNDAYS

10:00 AM - Worship and Programming for Children 3 years old to 5th grade.

Our worship offers the opportunity to join with other believers in giving thanks and honor to God through praise, the sharing of the Lord's Supper, and the hearing of God's word.

Staff

Ronnie Roberts
Senior Minister

Ronnie joined First Christian in 1995 as the Youth and Family Minister. He worked in that capacity for eight years until pursuing a preaching minister position. As you might imagine, Ronnie stays busy with weekly sermons, pastoral care and other outreach opportunities. He also works along side the elders of our congregation to provide spiritual direction to First Christian Church. Ronnie is married to Linda and together they have two sons and two daughters.

Eric VonSpreckelsen
Worship Minister

Eric joined First Christian Church in July 2008 as the Worship Minister. Eric graduated from Nebraska Christian College with degrees in Church Music and Pastoral Studies. Before coming to Junction City, Eric was the Director of Housing and a Guitar Professor at Nebraska Christian College. Eric is married to Bridget and they have three daughters.

Kaleb Hansen
Youth and Family Minister

Kaleb joined First Christian Church in August 2025 as the Youth and Family Minister. He began attending the church in middle school and has remained involved since. Kaleb graduated from Manhattan Christian College in 2022 with a degree in Youth Ministry and tracks in spiritual formation and intercultural studies. He is married to Emma and they have two dogs.

Trisha Elder
Secretary

Trisha has been a member of First Christian Church since 1996. She became the secretary on June 1, 2011.  She is married to Gregg and they have two married daughters and two grandchildren.  

Dennis Wood
Custodian

Dennis joined First Christian in 1982 and shortly thereafter assumed the position of custodian. He has been faithful to this church through the years by maintaining our grounds and building and to this community by preparing our church for weddings, funerals and various social gatherings. Dennis is married to Lois.

Elders

Michael Berg (Chairman)

Mike started attending First Christian Church in 2006 and has been on the leadership team since 2016.  He spent a decade as a public school teacher, and another decade installing tv, internet and home security.  He has been a volunteer with the youth ministry since 2007, and is a member of the family ministry team. 

William (Bill) Dodin

Bill was born in New York, raised in California, and spent three years in the army. He submitted to Christ’s call in baptism in 1980. Bill married his wife Ginger in 1988. They have one son and four grandchildren. They joined First Christian Church in 1993. Bill has been an active part of FCC’s leadership for over 20 years.

Steve Lacer

Steve was born and raised in Junction City. He married his wife Carol in 1976. They have 2 sons and four grandchildren. Steve is retired after 35 years of civil service at Fort Riley. He has been actively involved in our Missions Team.

Nick Brown

Nick and his family have been part of the First Christian Church family since 2018.  He is actively involved through the Connect Team, as well as leading various classes and small groups. Nick and his wife, Hannah, and I have two kids, Lincoln and Waverly. He studied Leadership and Bible at Manhattan Christian College and Mass Communication at Kansas State University, and later completed graduate work in Counseling and Student Development. I currently serve in Enrollment Management at Kansas State University.

Jarred Landrith

Jarred has been a dedicated member of First Christian Church since 2005, where he has faithfully invested his time and talents in serving his church community. He is married to Lindsay Landrith, and together they are the proud parents of two sons, Oliver and Isaiah. In addition to his commitment to his family and church, Jarred is the owner of Landrith Construction Company. You have probably seen Jarred serving on the worship team as a drummer as well as completing many projects around the building.
